Temat: Buying bike from Poland

Hey there, I am from the Czech republic and I would like you to ask for a favour.
I am about to buy a bike from your country, but I have worries about the registration.

The seller claims we do not have to visit your registration office to put my name in to the bike's documents.
In CZ or Germany it is common that buyer and seller visit the office together, or the seller manages it on behalf of buyer with the power of attorney and than send the documents to the buyer. Basicly, it is to secure, that no one just grab the documents without a agreement with the owener and just register the bike on his name with fake contract for example.

Could you please give me advice? I have a copy of the Karta pojezdu and Dowod rejestracyjny (hope this one is polish name). There is the first owner name. Then I have a contract between this owner and owner number 2.  And I want to buy it from owner 2, who is not in the documents yet. In CZ this is OK, the bike can be in "half transfer" for a while.

I just don't know how it works in your country and I don't want to go twice such a long way after my registration office in Czech says I have to be in the documents from Poland registration office  for example.

Thanks folks a lot!

Do u have only copies of these documents: 'Karta pojazdu', 'Dowod rejestracyjny'? The seller should give u the original version of them.

Hi. Everything looks fine. You dont have to go to the registration office. You just need karta pojazdu and dowod rejestracyjny and the bill of sale between you and the seller. Honestly i think owner 2 should transfer documents on his name just in case and then sell it to you.

I requested the copies to check if the bike is not stolen, the seller will give me the originals when I pay the full price. At least I hope so :-)

According to polish law there is a duty on the seller to report fact of selling that bike to the registration office. If u want to feel calm with your concerns u can ask the seller to do that. That way u can get some kind of confirmation from reg.off. that u r the buyer.
